Light Therapy Treatment for Acne

There is a relatively new treatment available now for those who suffer from bothersome acne. This treatment is a laser with a clear light, and it is called the ClearLight laser. This laser is not just for the face, but works equally well on all parts of the body, with no currently known side effects, the ClearLight laser is perfectly safe for almost anyone to use. This laser treatment can be used in conjunction with prescribed medication and cosmetic therapies, or it can be used as a stand alone treatment.

Light therapy does not use ultraviolet light, but instead uses a highly intense blue light. This light will kill the bacteria down in the skin which is the cause of acne outbreaks. The light will also dry up the underlying excess oil that feeds the bacteria. The big advantage of the blue light is that unlike the ultraviolet light, it doesn't do any damage to the skin. Whiteheads, blackheads and pimples are caused by the bacteria buildup in the pores from the oil glands that produce excess oil. The light targets the bacteria to wipe them out, and it also damages the oil glands to make them produce less oil.

Light treatment causes little pain or discomfort and is useful for the treatment of scars as well as acne. The light treatment stimulates the regeneration of new tissue, making it an effective scar treatment option. It has been shown to be effective as an acne treatment where other treatments and medications have failed to produce satisfactory results.

The light treatment consists of short, quick bursts of light to the afflicted area. This treatment was first used to minimize wrinkles by stimulating collagen production. It has also been successfully used to treat scars from the most severe acne cases. It was later found to be an effective treatment to combat blemishes. Specialists were allowed to analyze the clinical evidence of the treatments and they agreed that the light treatment was indeed a successful tool for treating live acne. A recently published study states that it's possible that a single five minute session can last up to a year.

A hospital in London conducted a study involving 30 participants who had mild to moderate acne. In this clinical trial, one half of the patients received real light therapy, and the others received a placebo light treatment. Sure enough, only the patients who received the real light therapy showed any signs of improvement in their acne.

The patients which took a part in the laser light clinical trial lost up to 80 percent of their treated acne. The treatment is now currently being used in private clinics. When the treatments first began they were very costly, but with the advancements made and with their use getting more wide spread, the costs of laser light therapy has declined. This declined in treatments costs has made it possible for more and more acne sufferers to seek out and receive the laser light treatment.
